Private Arthur Kennard, 8557, 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, was born in Hartfield on 21st July 1891. He lived at Church Street, Hartfield and later Cairo Cottage, Southwater, Horsham. He enlisted in the 1st Hampshire Regiment on 1st January 1910 in Portsmouth. He was killed in action during a charge on 6th August 1915 at Krithia, Turkey, age 24 and has no known grave and is listed on the Helles Memorial: Panel 125-134 or 223-226 228-229 & 328.
He was the son of Edmund Arthur Kennard (1861-1891) and Annie Maria (Greenfield) Kennard (1860-1931). His pre-war occupation was a Professional Soldier.
