Second Lieutenant Charles William Peel, 3rd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, was born in about 1889. He lived at White House, Hartfield. He was killed in action on 24th April 1915 near Ypres, Belgium, age 26 and has no known grave and is listed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial: Panel 44 and 46.
He was the son of William Felton Peel (1839 -1907) and Sarah Edith (Willoughby) Peel. His pre-war occupation was possibly in the family cotton firm, Peel & Co. He originally enlisted in the Prince of Wales Civil Service Rifles.
