Douglas Aubrey Godfrey

Warrant Officer Class II (C.S.M.) Douglas Aubrey Godfrey, 6285717, 2nd Airborne Battalion ‘C’ Company, South Staffordshire Regiment, was born in East Grinstead District in 1917. He lived in Cosheston, Pembrokeshire. He received a stomach wound during the withdrawal across the Rhine, he was taken prisoner on the following day but died of his wounds on the 28th September 1944 at Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, age 27 and is buried in Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Grave: 24. A. 4. 

He was the son of Charles Edwin and Dorothy A (Mitchell) Godfrey. He was married to Violet Mary (Williams) Godfrey. He was known as ‘Dan’.
