Edward Graham de Twenebroke ‘Twan’ Symons

Flying Officer (Wireless Operator / Air Gunner) Edward Graham de Twenebroke Symons, 84907, 455 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, was born in Winnipeg, Canada on 21st March 1911. He lived at Kilnwood, Cotchford Lane, Hartfield. He was killed in action on 12th February 1942 over the English Channel / North Sea near the Dutch coast during Operation Fuller, to attack the German battle cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and light cruiser Prinz Eugen., usually known as the Channel Dash, age 30 and has no known grave and is listed on the Runnymede Memorial: Panel 67.

He was the son of Ralph T. and Ethel Symons. He was married to Hilda ‘Binky’ (Bell) Symons. His pre-war occupation was as a Schoolmaster. He was known as ‘Twan’.
