Gunner Edward James Luxford, 277542, 119th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, was born in Forest Row in 1874. He lived at Little Parrock Farm, Colemans Hatch, and enlisted on 11th November 1914 in Horsham. He was killed in action on 8th May 1918 near Poperinghe, Ypres, Belgium, age 43 and is buried in Gwalia Cemetery : Grave II. F. 17.
He was the son of Job and Jane Luxford. He was married to Elizabeth (Smith) (1874) Luxford and had the following children; Elizabeth Jane (1908), Margaret (1909). His pre-war occupation was a House Painter. He first enlisted in The Royal Artillery (No. 9816) in 1895 and served in the UK, India, Aden and Gibraltar. He discharged in 1907 and re-enlisted on 11th November 1914 in the Royal Garrison Artillery (No. 277542).
