Ellen Bramwell was born about 1869. She was the mother Marjorie Sumner who was the Headmistress of St Mary’s School and lived at School House, Hartfield. She was killed by enemy bombing on 9th July 1943 on Station Road, East Grinstead, age 74 and is buried in St Mary’s Churchyard, Hartfield: Grave E 38.
She had previously been married to John Sumner, and was married to Harry Bramwell who died with her in the same attack. Her children were John George Sumner (1896-1916), Harold Sumner (1898-1916), Marjorie Helen May Sumner (1907-1966).Both her sons were killed in action on the same day, 30 June 1916.
