Driver Ernest Stanley Vaughan, 1991, 1st/3rd Kent Field Company, Royal Engineers, was born in Hartfield in 1897. He lived at Robins Lane, Hartfield and enlisted in April 1915 in Gillingham. He drowned on board M.S. Hythe after a collision with the Sarnia. on 28th October 1915 near Mudros Bay, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey, age 19 and has no known grave and is listed on the Helles Memorial: Panel 326.
He was the son of Walter Thomas (1868) and Ada (1868) Vaughan. His pre-war occupation was a Shop Boy Errand.
