Trooper George W Weeding, 1548, No.2 Company, Household Battalion, was born at New Lodge Farm, Hartfield in 1885. He lived at Culvers Cottage, Hartfield. He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 near Roeux, France, age 32 and is buried in Roeux British Cemetery Special Memorial H. 7.
He was the son of George (1857-1919) and Sarah Ann (Langridge) (1856-1921) Weeding. He was married to Alice (Wheatley) Weeding (1888–1974) and had the following children; Geoffrey Joseph (1913-1978), Peter George (1914). His pre-war occupation was a gardener employed by Mr J T Brown for 6 years. Also a Farm Labourer. His brother John (1897) died on 20th August 1917. His wife Alice, was the sister of Harry Wheatley (1895) who died on 26th March 1918.
