Private George William Stevenson, 5546, 2nd/6th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, was born in Hartfield in 1893. He lived at Colemans Hatch and enlisted in Horsham. It is possible he may have lived at Furnace Farm, Newbridge, Colemans Hatch. He was killed in action on 5th July 1916 near Laventie, Pas de Calais, France age 23 and has is buried in Rue-du-Bacquerot No1 Military Cemetery, Laventie: Grave II. J. 10.
He was the son of John (1870) and Elizabeth Stevenson (1868). He initially served as 2857 in the Royal Sussex Regiment. His brother John died on 27th October 1916.
