John Bartram Kiddell

Lieutenant John Bartram Kiddell, HMS Kestrel 825 Naval Air Squadron, Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm, was born in India on 28th May 1919. He lived at Alderton, High Street, Hartfield. He was shot while ‘trying to escape’ as a Prisoner of War on 1st July 1943 at Stalag Luft III, Sagan, Germany, age 24 and is buried in Poznan Old Garrison Cemetery, Poland : Grave 3. C. 12. He was in the camp hospital at the time suffering from a mental breakdown, and it is commonly acknowledged that he was not trying to escape.

He was the son of Harry Morbhanj Bartram Kiddell (1891) and Blanche Mary Vialou (Clark) Kiddell. His pre-war occupation was a Royal Naval Officer (Pilot).
