Sapper Albert Bassett, 537927

350th Engineering and Mining Company, Royal Engineers, was born in Hartfield in 1879. He lived at Orchard Cottage, High Street and enlisted on 19th August 1914 in Hastings. He died from Bronchio Pneumonia on 6th February 1919 at No.12 Stationary Hospital, St. Pol-Sur-Ternoise, France and is buried at St. Pol British Cemetery: Grave II.E.9.

He was the son of William (1854-1919?) and Harriet (1853-1914) Bassett. He was married to Ellen Harriett (Berry) Bassett and had a daughter Joyce Marguerite Bassett. His pre-war occupation was a Labourer. His brother James died on 8th October 1915.

He originally served with 5th Royal Sussex Regiment, 2259, and transferred to the Royal Engineers on 22nd June 1917.
